Read the threads on here regarding A frame balljoint removal and I can only conclude I'm doing something wrong!
I cannot get a spanner or socket onto the balljoint nut. Socket just doesn't fit in at all. 30mm ring and open spanners don't fit either- fuel tank is in the way. Tried every possible angle, every spanner, every adjustable I've got, nothing fits.
Obviously it can be undone- so how do you get a spanner on the thing?

i use a std short socket with 6 inch extension but have ground sockets shorter before , at worst you can split it with a decent cold chisel inline with one of slots

Yeah, tried to look for shallow sockets but can't seem to find anything on 30mm that fits. Not keen on grinding down a socket either unless I have to. Looked a a grinder on the nut but doesn't fit.
Never had lot of success using cold chisel to split nut before but will try if I can't find a socket to fit. Is there a factory tool?

not hard to do ,split across center of a flat

Silly question, but have you taken the split pin out? Mine was crudded up so much I couldn't get it out,so I had to hammer the socket on and use a breaker bar to snap it out.I think I used an imperial socket to get it out.The new one went on with an normal 30mm spanner and I've got a tank guard in the way.

I used a 30mm impact socket bought from Halfords. A good few mm shorter than a standard socket and waisted towards the square drive end; made all the difference to getting it into the available space.

Yeah, split pin is out. The only part of it that wasn't rusted!

Excellent, thanks! Will get one tomorrow and have a go. Prefer to use socket if possible, then I can use the breaker bar on it
