Pulled on to the M27 and my defender 90 H reg started hunting for fuel :( I thought here we go 90 miles from home and its gonna be along day. So a call to the RAC and 40 minutes later a nice man called Kevin phoned and said what did I think was wrong with Bert
I told im that it was either the diesel filter or fuel pump. I told him I had spares on board including a genuine LR filter to which he said "what your carrying spares" I said yes lol its a landy so he duly arrived agreed that it was hunting for fuel ,changed the filter( I was rammed with camping gear so I could not get to my tools MY BAD:confused:) he said there was services 3 mile ahead and see how it drives .Off we set and jeez it sounded different and had more acceleration and just drove different tbh pulled into the services duly signed his notepad and was home in a couple of hours.:).
I carry jumps, filters, tow ropes, fuses , wiring crimps and glowplugs and shed loads of other bits what do you all think is the most important spare to carry? and no Wife is not the answer

Why carry filters if you don't change them?:eek::p

need a spanner to bleed the nut at top

On an otherwise working system, you spin the filter on, then pump using the manual lever on the lift pump, untill there is weeping around the filter seal. Then spin it on the whole way and start up. A bit of rough idle maybe but that's all.

This is assuming the setup on the 200 is the same as the 300.

Spin filter on & start up. Yep mine dies but then self bleeds in 4 turns.
I carry a spare filter you never know when you/someone else may need it .
Carry a recovery card. Good phone.
Battery back up for phone incase motor is dead.

cracking post

So why not attach the correct spanner to the new filter with a bit of insulating tape, for next time, ( and silicon gloves) !
clever clever idea

Put the spanner in the filter box with gloves you also won't loose the spanner.
as above bang on the money

...again, you don't need the spanner.

just in case just in case
