Actually, having owned an MPi, I can honestly say that a lack of power had never been an issue they always run oun out of grip before they run out of power or torque. In fact, due to their lower weight and far better throttle response, I found it a better off road drive than the Tdi. It does require a different driving style, but I never found it any less able than the Tdi, usually the opposite was true. After all the series engines have far less power and torque to weight than any of the discoverys or defenders, and they are very capable, it is all in how you drive them.Oh and no wonder it couldn't get out of the mud. Three magic letters M P I on the rear door.

Is it just me that's never seen an mpi? What is it?
