(98) p38 auto

When I got the car it had the usual hot start problem the little black box was fitted so wasn't worried. But I've found when car get hot n I've driven it for a while and park go back to it and start it put it in drive or reverse the revs drop and I've got no movement.the wierd bit is if I lift the bonnet and disconnect the little black box I've got movement in drive and reverse but it over revs and holds in gear longer than it should. Just had it to a landy specialist for both coolant temp sensors changed and was told FIP needs sevicing or replacing as well as in tank pump but they want £50 an hour. I'm completely stumped need help

Try replacing the lift pump/in tank one first. I take it you have replaced the fuel filter ???

Throttle position sensor. Try to borrow one and give it a whirl. I have so many similar problems with these things along with the idle valve. It's due to them being crap, French and not reliable with no way of replacing internal components.
