So I need to get the passenger side seat base out. I cant move the seat forward or backwards as the motors aren't working so can't unbolt the rails

Either due to the switch in the middle console sides or due to the many relay's under that seat being kaput - after 25 years I can't complain

I don't seem to be able to find any utube stuff on removing in situ and if i remove the side "covers" of the seat and look around and upside down nothing is obvious

Maybe one of you mud island peoples has done this. I would imagine that the V8 or 300 tdi D1 models are the same as far as the seats go

As you need access to the 8 screws per seat and remove before you can lift it out as a complete unit with its motors, gearboxes and flexible drives which are all sealed.
I would suggest find out why the seat doesn’t move perhaps following the various electrical circuits at the seat switch with the wiring diagram and bridging the necessary wires found there to see what happens, plus tracing with a multi meter if required.

I believe that the relay/fuse etc can be can seen underneath the seat, I may be wrong as its a few years ago that installed a bit of kit under the passenger seat of my disco

Anyway the best of luck

Try connecting the driver side seat switch and see if it moves, the connectors don't fit in such a way as to make the switches interchangeable but you can connect them, I have done it a couple of times on mine as my drivers side seat base height adjustment will lower but won't raise, so when it gets accidentally lowered all I do is connect up the passenger side switch and use that to raise it back up, I suppose I should just take the switch apart and repair it properly but I just don't ever get around to it.
