Tps can be unplugged and will run ok using fail-safes. Bad crank sensor maybe but usually the Rev counter doesn't react(check ) this needs plugging in tbh but try unplugging sensors is it over fueling. I don't think this is injectors possibly coils. Definitely needs codes. Sorry! Air leak would lead to lean misfires. Crank sensor def needs checking though.

You're dead right - it took me some time to find one, and it wasn't cheap. It turned out there were a few different manufacturers of the same component, and that it fits a few other US cars. I trawled ebay with the different part numbers and finally came across one in the states. It was listed for another vehicle (can't remember which one, but Plymouth comes to mind), but I cross-checked and it was the same part as the dealer could indeed confirm. Success came from searching for the following part:

Can you remember which seller had stock on eBay? Keep us informed on your car I'm curious about what's caused your problem. Sometimes these problems are fairly simple as they are very significant to the running of the engine and involve a vital sensor. My guess is a main dealer in Bergen will be as much use as a chocolate teapot unless he's got a 60 year old long term tech. And the relevant means to read a 20 year old ecu!...and spares to suit.

The garage read the codes and came up with a faulty MAF. I scored a second hand one off ebay, plugged it in, and we're back in business. I know it was suggested by Fergie, but I had no way of testing it and I had expected the car to be driveable without it. Anyway, live and learn! I suppose that the fact I had the TPS and MAF faults simultaneously made it that much harder to pinpoint.

If you still have the old one, check to see if there is any corrosion or green on the element inside? That is if you can, some MAF sensor's are shielded in plastic shrouds.. worth a shot! Just for the knowing for others.
