96 discovery strange starting problem

I have this recurring problem where if I drive the vehicle around for a little while..say 30-40 minutes...then stop for a short while..5-15 minutes..and try to start it up..it won't start..won't even turn over..just a little click..
The battery is fine..radio and lights work..won't start even with a jump.
And then I wait 30 minutes and it starts up just fine..
Anybody know what this could be?

Sounds like starter motor solonoid playing up or imobiliser ?

To be sure, when it does the trick take a strong enough wire and feed the clamp of the starter with a (+) directly from the battery(bypassing the solenoid)............if it starts you are sure.......though the click you said leeds logical to the solenoid.

we had this problem on a diesel cavy changed the battery still the same. Replaced the starter and all was well again. So i would have to agree with the above.
