have a 96 300tdi rev counter not working where is best place to start looking for the fault??

Wires at the back of the alternator came off or corroded is where id look first.

Btw this section is for members projects not for faults ive reported it to be moved. ;)

Cheers for reporting it still getting used to where right part is to post technically it is a project ;) bought last week alternator was seized so fitted a second hand one and needs a tonne of welding but at £350 with 87k miles on the clock it was a bargain

You could just change the title using the thread tools box & start your own project thread, stick your head in the disco
section & put some pics up they love pics;)
D1s are becoming popular these days.. I have 3 disco's atm o_O

The tach takes a signal from the alternator via a fine white wire, if the alternator is stuffed I'd suspect it won't produce the required signal, the replacement alternator needs to have the facility to provide the correct signal, i.e a genuine type replacement unit.
