Hi Dave,

Thanks for advice but sedimentor was removed before I got the landy so can't be the problem. This being the case I am wondering where else I might have a load of crap built up in the engine.
I think after adjusting the idle and my 'pay and play' day on Friday i'm going to have to start pulling things apart and cleaning them out to try and resolve the problem.

Cheers

Mike

My 300 tdi used to stall at junctions but only when on veg oil mix,so I went back to straight derv. Then I changed the lift pump and took it out for a spin [feeling pleased with myself] it then started to cut out and would not run for more than a few minutes before cutting out.Got brought home by rac  turned out to be the sedimentor sucking in air ,so I bypassed it and fitted new sender unit from tank. Its been fine since on veg oil or derv :)

I had similar problem and I think it was the little filter on the pipe in the fuel tank, sorted that and the lift pump at the same time and it cured it.

Right - it doesn't seem to be any of the filters!!
But what i did find out - is that if i park up and sit in neutral (after it's been parked up or once the engine is warm after a drive) and rev the engine (just once) and fully take my foot off the accelerator it tries to conk out as the rev-ometer hits the bottom of the dial.
I will try the lift pump another evening but any other suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Sounds like its sucking air in somewhere. Take the fuel filter of and see if its draining diesel back into the fuel tank. fuel filter should be full when you unscrew it.If its not its draining back .

cheers guys.
Will check fuel filter tonight to see if its draining back and adjust idle.
I've already checked all hoses for cracks etc but can't see anywhere that air is getting in. I'm off work tomorrow and going for an off road session with a mate so will have some time to look over it all properly with a second pair of eyes to check I haven't missed anything.
Will keep you updated with progress.

adjusted idle before a 50mile run, then a few hours offroading followed by the return journey and ran fine . . . . problem sorted (i hope)
