I have a problem with my 90 td5 it a 2000 one, everything is fine appart from when stationary or slow moving the heat from the heater is non existent, get moving and the heat is good.

Gauge is reading correct, no oils or waters where they shouldn't be, so has anyone any ideas what to check or what the issue is?

Any help greatly appreciated.

It could be as simple as your thermostat is getting weak, water pump is corroded or a blocked heater matrix. It could be something more sinister such as head gasket failure. Are the coolant hoses pressurising (going solid) after its been driven?

Has it had a new thermostat recently?

My own TD5 doesn't like minus conditions and I have to cover the radiator in order to get heat on tickover.

Mine too. I simply slide a piece of cardboard wrapped in a bin liner down between the intercooler and the radiator. That way the intercooler gets blasted with cold air when moving and the radiator gets none so it stays a tad toastier. Its still not roasty toasty though.

Well I think it is the head gasket, water getting in the bores, last couple of days it's been a pig to start, need to crank it quite a few times before it fires.

Did think it was possibly air in the fuel system, but it chucks white smoke out when it does fire, usually when warm it will start first time but this eve it needed cranking.

Time will tell off to my mechanic it goes lol, just isn't my week as oil pump on my Audi is playing up so both vehicle us just what I need
