Ive been aware of this problem for a while but its getting worse, especially when towing - transmission seems fine while driving along, but when coming to a standstill, and im pretty sure its when coasting with foot on the clutch, shes starting to make a nasty sort of clunk clunk which feels about at road wheel speed. It feels like its at the front, but i had a similar experience just before my last transfer box packed in.
All oil levels are good, i know diff lock isnt engaged.
When i replaced front swivel seals, i did notice that the brass bush that the half shaft runs in was badly worn - could this be allowing the CV joint to contact the housing? any help please?

thanks

Steve

Is that a condition that could be dangerous? i dont want anything seizing up on me! Is there any way of confirming this other than checking the amount of backlash in the diff?

thanks

steve

You could check your front hub bearings as well. They can do this sort of thing when they're on their way out before they collapse completely and make a horrible noise. Hopefully, Alan should have fitted me noo bearings before it's home time today :(

I had similar worries and the sound seemed to be coming from same place and it was only when coming to standstill.

turned out my handbrake was sticking on ever so slightly having been over adjusted and I couldn't work out where the sound was coming from throu the medium of odd accoustics.

could be that. or not.
