90 Full Re-Spray

So I currently rebuilding my 300Tdi 90 and was planning on spraying the panels myself then fitting to the 90. Well after reading about 2k paint and not having anywhere to paint it other than my single or back garden (in a gazebo with sides) I've decided to put it back together and get a paint shop to carry out the work. Also need to get the build moving again.

So any advice on how to do this? engine in or out - As my suspension is all new and no weight on the front even at full travel I cannot get the shocks bottom bolt in so I was going to fit engine, boxes, exhaust, props, etc. I going to buy a galvanized rear door and my go whole hog with new front doors as mine need work. I've got a new galv bulkhead and was planning on a full paint job on this but this will not be possible if I start fitting bits. I've also added galv tub cappings and replaced rear tub floor and removed rear bulkhead (which will be replaced with bulkhead delete bar)
 
Could you send all the body panels / bulkhead to the paint shop separately?
I did before I rebuilt mine. Would be a better result at the end of it.
I would trial fit the bulkhead onto the chassis to make sure it fits, heard some bad things about some galved bulkheads not fitting properly and some holes having to be redrilled.

If the paint shop done it how did you get the like of the roof, rear tub there?
 
I painted mine when it was rebuilt, i found putting the body panels on the landy quite tricky by myself and would have loads of scratches on the new paint if I had painted beforehand. ☹️

I got a paint shop to do it. I was about 30 miles away and I hired a van.

Just about finished. Had four new tyres and a few more bits and bobs to go on. It's been filthy ever since :rolleyes:

That's what worries me

As others have said, if you're going to do it panel by panel, build up the whole thing first to make sure it fits.

I know it seems like a waste of time, and you may find it all works out fine. But you may not, and it's easier to force things when you're not worrying about paint.

I think I probably caused a few little scratches putting it together. But, having it all rubbed down, treated, primed and painted inside and out, was well worth a few scratches that you can just T cut out or will barely be noticed. The alternative is to have areas you know haven't been prepped, primed and painted, some of which might show.
 
My 110 has every panel a different colour. I needed to build up a replacement door, so that got painted then, so as I could give the internals a proper coat of epoxy and then top. I was almost more bothered about doing the inside of the door than the outside.

The bulkhead got done when it was off the vehical also.

When I weld up the other door bottoms, they will get done.

At some point it will all be done, and I'll know it's completely done, rather than just a skim over the outside.

Oh, the cappings got done also, and a few other bits.

(I don't mind it looking rough really, I'm more interested in the steel work being done so it doesn't corrode)
