L322 55 plate EWS, or not?

I am trying to get a spare key for our 55 plate Range Rover which only came with one key. The dealer wants £290. I have found someone who can do it way cheaper but the cost will depend on whether it uses EWS, or not. Apparently the later ID46 system without EWS is easier, and cheaper to do.

The car is the face-lift version. Does anyone know when they changed from using EWS?
 
where is the guy who is doing the keys and whats the price if i can ask. thanks phil

In Walthamstow. If it has the ID46 system it is £65. If it is the EWS system and I remove the EWS unit £40, otherwise, if he removes it about £70.

It is probably best part of a 4 hour round trip for me but definitely worth it to save well over £200!
 
If you have the touchscreen sat nav...I think you won't have the BMW EWS system fitted.

Just be totally sure he isnt going to just clone the existing key rather than make another one, its not a massive problem but I would say if you have two of one of the key numbers it will only let one be synchronized at the same time. Not a huge issue if you don't intend to use the two keys at the same time but if you were to have one each as a couple it would be a problem.
 
Went to get the key done this afternoon. It did have the ID46 system, so the chap was able to set up another one fairly easily. The only snag was that he couldn't actually cut the key blade. However, he did test the new chip in the original key case to check that it started the car. Just need to get the blade done now but as he charged me £65 and it will only be about £7 to do the blade, it is still a massive saving. I also got a new case with blade for £3, that I can swap my original key workings into because the buttons are getting rather worn.
 
i got mine cut at tesco, but they didnt want to do it at first. cause they said they didnt want me to go back if the key snapped in the barrel. so i said doni worry thats my fault if that happens.. so they then cut ut 12 quid
 
I struggled to find somewhere that would cut a blade, and the one place that could was closed on the day I went to see them......gave up in the end, but I should get a spare key as I only have one!

The guy who programmed the key recommended a cutter just down the road that could do it for £7. I tried to find it but ran out of time, so I asked the chap in the Timsons at the Sainsburys where I had parked and he said the same thing about it snapping in the barrel and being responsible. There are about half a dozen key cutters near me, so I will try some of them on Tuesday.
