50 miles a day, what shall I buy?

Hello all, yes I'm a newbie and as my title says I have a 50 mile round trip each day to work. I have an absolute max budget of £3K and prefer the swb to the lwb (excuse me if I get the terminology wrong).

I don't want a Range, Freelander or Discovery.

Any suggestions would be greatly received!

Well I'd say you've really narrowed down to a one horse race. it's gonna have to be a 90/110 defender only thing you need to decide now is do you need the extra storage space a 110 will give you if not go for a 90.

Also consider the increased fuel consumption that using a land rover will add to your monthly fuel bill. 30mpg if its running ok, a lot less if you drive it like a ****. Its a bit of a shock if your used to running a more economical runaround car.

Get a 200 or 300 TDi and run it on Veg Oil.

Without sounding like a compete idiot, what's the difference between a 200TDi and a 300TDi (told you I was a newbie)?

So, is the 200TDi much better than the older? 2.5 diesel in the 90 & 110's. Or do I not (yet) know what I'm talking about?

I just want to but the right vehicle!

yea the 200tdi is MUCH better than the older 2.5 diesel.

Cheers Ian, what sort of mpg could I expect? Avg speed to work is probably about 50 mph.

I get about 25 - 30 out of my disco, thats mixed driving.

Higher gear ratio's in a discovery though.

I get about 28mpg out of mine when im doing under 60mph soon as i go above and start doing motorway speeds it drops to 23mpg.

If you want to know what the visual differences between a 300 and 200tdi are do a google image search for each and you'll see the small differences. Performance wise the 300 has more power and torque but they are also more expensive. For 3k your better off with a good 200 as someone mentioned earlier.
