Just make sure you have some good recovery points.

Saw a 110 at the weekend that didnt. Pulling from the bumper not the best move:)

this is why i'm not doing much offroading for a couple of months whilst i save up to put some heavy duty bumpers on with recovery points.

this video is the perfect example :) [nomedia="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ql74vGbbtwU&feature=youtube_gdata"]YouTube- How Not to Tow a Car - Snowtow Revisited[/nomedia]

just buy a set of JATE rings only about 30 quid for 4, and i disagree with the comment about not needing to take any ropes etc as there is a group etc, you should always take enough recovery equiptment to recover your own vehicle, with shackles and atleast one rope.

No you wont need ropes etc if there is a group. Just as long as someone has a set.

How fooking selfish not to mention risky. Firstly why should everyone else fork out for recovery gear, and then use them and possibly damage them recovering people who are too tight to buy their own recovery gear. Not to mention the hassle of cleaning the mud out of em afterwards And

Secondly: You don't know what the other guy has used his rope/strops for, Or where they've been stored. I wouldn't risk my life/vehicle/passengers lives (in that order :D) using someone else's recovery gear Unless I was very happy that they looked after their gear.

Agreed, I'm itching to go out and do some greenlanes but won't even consider it until I have decent recovery point's fitted a decent tow rope & some shackle's onboard ... just p'd off that fund's are non-existent at the moment:(

thanks for all the advice guys and yeah i want to get my own gear too. what do people recon about these kinetic ropes I've heard about??? or rope or flat strap types?

as for jate rings my steering guard will be in the way I think!! Any other alternatives apart from a better bumper??

ive got a steering guard and jate rings on the front, stay away from kinetics especially as your new to it

Sorry didnt mean to upset anyone. I was only implying that if someone was struggling I would be happy to use my kit to help them out.

But I take the point about not using kit you are unsure of and we should all have our own kit.

I've recently acquired an off road prepped disco. Anyone EVER goes out either Green Lane or Pay n Play with an hour or so of Loughborough then PM me, i'll be up for it! Gotta make use of the disco, since it's my second car!

P.s. I have bought a tow rope, and my FiL is an engineer by trade, so has sorted me out with some decent shackles and fixed em to the chassis.... :D
