Its Not that I do loads of offroading just now and again, but where I live is a steep bank only way in and out, and when the snow comes I'm about the only one that can get out of the estate , that is after towing everyone else out first,. Think they all depend on me now as I've always had a 4x4 over the years. Don't think I used the difflock on my last Defender that I had, I know I used it on an Old MK2 Hilux going up and down same bank.
Probably not need it on my Disco but will try and get it sorted just in case , just think how Stupid I will feel getting stuck on the bank in this.:)

...or if your diff fubars while trying to tow someone out!
On snow, don't mess about, put difflock on. And only take it off once on clear tarmac. Ashcroft do know what they are talking about!;)
