Hi,

2nd thread on this forum (bloody freelander!).

Freelander GS Auto 2TD 4 door

Driving last night, and the whole car jolted, the 'Hill Descent Climb' light came on with the exclamation mark, and it felt like it was stuck in a low gear (pulling away from the lights was very slow).

On the dashboard, it was flashing "4 F" ... '4' first, then 'F'.

I turned the engine off (when I got home), and started again.

Message was gone, and it seemed to change gear ... bult the engine felt 'funny'. Like it was having trouble changing gear, a little 'jerky'.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Stop driving it until we collectivly sort out the problem, or advise. Your closer to naffing your auto box if it's got a jerky gear change.

From memory, the F4 is a fault mode. When this happens it selects 4th gear to pull away. This is because the "system" thinks it has a fault, or has detected a fault.

You can download the RAVE DISK here for instructions on how to fix your car.

Ya sure it int a 4FS Fault code. . . . . . . .think its summit to do wiff doors un getting wet or summit :) :) :)

Hi,

Update - I took it to a Land Rover specialist - he said something about the power bands, and ultimately it's the gearbox.

He also said he could change the expensive gearbox oil, and that might fix it, but he was pretty certain a new gearbox = £2500 ...

Just posted another thread ... I've got rid of the bloody thing now - terrible experience with the thing.

Thanks for the help

****in hell - did yu have "MUG" stamped on yo forehead?

"We are able to offer a same day fitting service for the all-inclusive price of £1,380, which includes the use of a courtesy car." - thats from Ashcrofts.

I definitely did have mug written on my face ...

... when I first bought the bastard thing.

I was only going on advice from the garages I visited.

Still a lot of money, whichever way you look at it. Shouldn't be expecting to but a new gearbox for an auto, that had only done 70k.

That was one problem, from a list of about 5.

What a useless car.

In fairness - i dint think yu did - but trying to charge ya £2500 when Ashcrofts (the definative Landy gearbox specialists) wud only charge yu £1250 including box, fitting and a courtesy car is takin the **** - aint it?
