No, there is nothing pedestrian about the TDV8, that was my point, they have the same power as the 4.4 V8, so are quick enough. And is the reason I decided to get into another P38 just now while I save for one, rather than "settle" for an early 4.4 L322.
I'm sure the 2.5 TDI, when chipped, is quick enough for most. But not for me. It may be as quick as my old 4.6 at best, but I suspect closer to my current 4.0, both of which are a bit, well, meh.
You misunderstand me though. I have no intention of driving about like an idiot. But I do drive a lot of back roads and dual carriageways, where the ability to overtake safely is a huge bonus, or the ability to accelerate quickly onto the DC is also worthwhile.
Just because I like to drive a quick-ish car doesn't mean I have to drive like a hooligan. My personal feeling is that around the 250 BHP mark is probably the minimum where I would feel an almost 3 ton truck isn't actually slow.
