ahh i see.
ever used lotxane non aromatic degreaser? I cleaned of the two gallons of wax oil the aussie used on the heads to ship them today but now thinking of it I wonder if it would bugger the valve stem seals??
it doesnt melt the nitrile gloves like acetone does though

not that i know of ,though ive used many but most degreasers arent as harsh as they used to be ,thinners was a favourite of mine but its not so easy to get cheap around here now

someone said parrifin doesnt hurt the seals so I may do the other head with that.

well ive built a dip tank, washed the heads, took forever to get the lambs wool wax off and out from the tracts!
bought a valve spring compressor and pulled a valve to check as the are supposed to be only 5k km old since re-build, the valves are ok but would benifit from a lapping and clean and the first valve stem seal was in 3 bits. if you look it the pics I cobbled it back together and am searching for a match.
there is some corrosion around the waterways and I am hoping its not too bad! there was hard gasket maker in those areas, whats the best replacement for that as I only have blue rtv silicone from real steel.
in other news I spent £400 at real steel today and am not the proud owner of a 10% discount card for a year lol
I bought some of there own brand composite head gaskets, they supply RPI apparently- still not sure if I should go earling- no suppliers jumping out at me. what do you guys think?
just waiting on a cam and lifters from aus now and trying to find an early waterpump with the long nose cone on it, suggestions????

Yay, you joined the 10% off club nice work on the tank! was that tig'd? you got any pics of the valves?
The corrosion on the water ways was like mine, I used some thick perspex to scrape it and cleaned it up with a soft brass wheel (dremel type)

I went to town with the perspex and even a blunt stnle blade in the odd spots but didnt have the balls to use a brass wheel- so you didnt worry about that damaging the flatness of the ally?, I know I am paranoid btw
10 percent clubs good but I am not sure I need anything else lol probably will
btw I went arp studs on the mains, heads and big ends- ouch! I did get some valve pics, my phone is being gay atm so I am not sure where they went but I will upload. did that vlave stem seal look anything like your later ones?

The valves look good, you should have seen the state of mine! Yea 10% club.. bit of a waist of time lol.. and the brass wheel is very soft.. wouldn't hurt your skin.

I am sooo frustrated waiting for parts lol, I wanted it done by now- still leaves lots of time for cleaning lol

yea I did all the ali faces with it, doesn't scratch it at all, gets it nice n clean after you remove the harder crud
