I tow a 32" caravan (2200kg) with an S63 AMG. Needs approx 10mpg. (Doing 90mph all the way on the motorway though).
Wait.
You tow a caravan at 90mph???

Yup. Doing that since 2008 and never even had a warm moment, despite crossing Europe North to South at least twice a year.
The equipment is more than adequate (wide and stable caravan, good stabilisers, heavy car that also had a long wheelbase + air suspension, ...) and I do have quite a bit of experience, so I don't bomb down the long hills in France at 90mph and if there is side wind, I lift off straight away and cruise at 60-65mph.
This is the reason I have done away with my Shogun. It had much more trouble towing the caravan than the S-class (not more stable and much slower), so what's the point of having a 4x4 workhorse??
Hope a RR V8 (diesel or petrol) can fill that void.

His is only 32" long so maybe that's why he can tow it at 90mph!!! Mind you, 32" long and 2200kg, must be made from neutron star to be that heavy!!!You obviously have far different regulations out there than in the UK where the maximum trailer length (exc. drawbar) is 7metres & motorway speed is restricted to 60mph/97kph when towing.
Yikes! When I first looked at this thread i thought it said "4 mpg when towing car trailer", I was going to ask you how on earth did you get such an economical Rangie, they're usually heavier on fuel than that ?Had a look online but can't seem to find much information on mpg figures for towing. I've a 400 mile round trip to collect a classic 4 door and I'll be using my dad's '98 P38 4.0 auto. So I've got 200 miles towing car trailer then 200 miles with the RRC on the trailer. Nearly all motorway, can anyone give me some idea of what mpg i might expect? Was hoping to use my '92 Tdi but needs a few things doing and won't be ready in time.
Thanks
I thought that too, did a double take when I saw it!!!Yikes! When I first looked at this thread i thought it said "4 mpg when towing car trailer", I was going to ask you how on earth did you get such an economical Rangie, they're usually heavier on fuel than that ?

Or maybe he's just full of bulls*%t. I mean, 10 mtr caravan?!?!!? That's a static!!!
Any number of things will affect the mpg. Just drive, just before it runs out fill it upAny number of things will affect the mpg. Just drive, when it runs out fill it up.
Looks like a pikey wagon on tour do you tarmac drives ?I would recommend you come off your island once and check what the rest of the planet looks like.
Meanwhile, a crash course in politeness would do you good too.
