Hi All,
I have recently purchased a 30th Anniversary P38 and so far after getting some work done, it is going well! The problem I have is the ‘toys’ inside!!

It is the model with the 3 screens and sat nav...
The DVD’s work fine on all screens (yes the front goes off when moving!) but I cannot get anywhere with the Sat Nav nor the TV!!
The screen isn’t the standard Land Rover, but a Sony...
When I switch on the Sat Nav (which does light up in the boot) it says ‘No Signal’.... Could this be because I need a digital tuner? If so could anyone tell me where I will find the analogue one, and which one I would have to purchase to get everything working.
I have taken off the boot panel on the CD player, as I read somewhere it would be behind the woofer, no luck just a wire saying ‘phone’
Any help would be appreciated, but could you keep the answers ‘easy’ reading as this female is only just getting use to all the jargon:confused:

:blabla:The sat nav works via gps so I don't think you need a digital tuner for that unless some one knows different. As for the TV tuner in mine it is a largish box behind the Sub woofer which has extra AV inputs, you can get a digital tuner from ebay as I did (quite cheaply about £60) and run it through the extra AV inputs on the analogue tuner.
This may sound stupid but have you got a disc in the sat nav (whether this would make a difference or not I couldn't say):welcome2:
Hope this helps.

Hi thankyou for your reply, I have had the side off where the sub woofer is and I only have the wires for the CD player there plus the cable for the 'phone'... oh and the speaker for the parking sensors..
On the other side where the sat nav is I can see the grey wire coming down back pillar which is probably from the aerial on the roof..
But no sign of what I could call a TV tuner!!
Yes I do have a CD...
Again thanks for your help:)

2 Things here.................

1. the ONLY reason you get "NO SIGNAL" thru a Sat Nav is either the aerial (& I mean SAT NAV AERIAL) NOT TV aerial has come loose or it aint got one!!!!

"Usually" on "After market" Sat nav screens they look like the attached (Square black magnetic lump)

2. You wiont get a TV pic as nearly all the UK is now Digital & the chances of your being "already Converted" .. would be pretty slim.....

Concentrate on the SAT NAV first ... take out the Sat unit & check that it HAS got an aerial fitted (Very thin black wire with a small Brass push fit end on it) IF it has Trace it back to where it goes ... (Should be on the roof) some P38's (Very Very few) had a form of "Chromatic" windows fitted (they have a slight BLueish tinge to them) this type of window blocks SAT NAV reception & you'll get a "No Signal" pop up Newish BMW's, Citroens & Renaults from the early 2000's have the same problems

They CAN (& Do) stop Mobiles working well inside the car also......

First port of call is to check it HAS an aerial .. & lets us know

Hi,

thanks for your replies. The model number of the Sat Nav CD unit is YIB000050 and doesn't have a socket for an aerial to be plugged into by the looks of it, so I assume that you mean an aerial would plug into the screen unit? There is also no GPS receiver box visible on any surfaces in the car. So it could be that it was stripped out when the new screen was put in up front.

So, on to the TV... we haven't removed the subwoofer or CD changer, but couldn't see any space for a unit around them once the trim was removed. Is it worth taking them out to look, or should it be obvious?

Thanks again

Ok Womble today I got out my shovel & had a dig about heres what I came up with

The antenna :
XUI1000040
XUI0000190 (vogue se)

The GPS Receiver :
YWY100240

The computer for in the boot :
YIB000110(changed by 050)
YIB000010(changed by 050)
YIB000050 (only this one is still available new)

So, We know you have the "Bottom one" (The Sat Nav Comp) you also need the other 2 as well .....As I don't have the foggyest what they look like I would suggest you look about for "Boxes" with ^^^^^^Those numbers on em

I would "Guess" you will find the GPS reciever & probs NOT the antenna

A "Logical" work thru would be

Signal recieved by Antenna >>>>>>to GPS Reciever>>>>> To Computer>>>>> To Screen

Regards

Keith

Ok I admit THIS has "Spiked my interest" .. Further digging revealed the attached................

1.= GPS reciever (Looks like THIS!!)

it is installed BEHIND THE WINDOW SWITCH PANEL BETWEEN THE FRONT SEATS!!!!!!

(Jees I'm GOOD at this!!!) ...... the Antenna plugs into this & then connects to the SAT NAV Computer in the boot & then on to the dash screen

I thought that when I first looked.
When you remove the trim there are 4 small bolts 2 either side off the CD changer, undo these and the changer should slide out then there is another 4 bolts 2 at the bottom of the sub and 2 more one either side at the top of the sub, the sub then will come away and you should then see the tuner in behind.

Wow!
Thank you for your replys.....
I wont be able to start dismatling things until next weekend, on the fear that I cannot get it back quick enough to use it!!:)
But I will start 'mapping' possible places now!!!
Thanks again..
