300tdi wont run below 600rpm

Disco 1 300 tdi wont run below 600 rpm which means that if the revs drop to 600 when starting off then it stalls and once stopped wont start again.

Starts on a whiff of ether and then ticks over at 700rpm lower than usual
runs ok but lacks a little power below 1500

Wont start even if stopped and try to start immediately

By passed sediment bowl at back

New lift pump

New fuel filter

was running ok on 50/50 bio but last few days got bad starting, I've just put diesel in so its less than 20% bio now but still wont have it

thinking that its more than just the bio:confused:

any ideas please:)
 
Any foam or **** in the fuel lines? Some crap bio seems to froth under certain conditions. Guy had it at work with morrisons bio. Could be whipping it up and then taking time to settle again.

I'll bleed everything tomorrow and see if its good diesel coming through:)
 
When I had my problem with bad bio last week, I had to empty the tank and sedimenter, put 20 litres of proper diesel in, empty the new fuel filter I had fitted when I broke down and refill it with proper diesel. Even the , it took four starts before it would tick over, then I cracked each injector pipe and undid the bleed screw on the filter housing to help get rid of any remaining **** fuel. It's running fine now on normal diesel. My bio is back in the processor. I've waged it a couple more times and just waiting for a dry day before trying to dry it thoroughly. My problem was, the bio wasn't dried properly when I put it in my tank. Motor was trying to run on a bio/water solution, lol :D
 
As has been said - check the fuel ... bleed it well ... up the revs to 800rpm

as the weather is warmer it'll be easier - the wet is a pain with a diesel ...
 
Don't know if your problem is the bio, or not, but here's a couple of pictures that may help. This one is of the bio when I removed it from the tank after breaking down.

This one is after washing it again and drying it properly. Just trying to pluck up the courage to pour it back into my tank after it was so unkind to me last week! But even I've got to admit, that bio wasn't finished when I put it in on Boxing day. Lesson learned. If your going to run your motor on alternative fuel, don't cut corners. :)

Mine's set to 750 rpm, currently using about 30% straight veg oil .. with no problems!

Mine does tick over at 750 rpm

But if revs drop, when starting off for instance, the motor will stop.

Engine will not start again unless prompted with easy start when it will fire up on the easy start and then catch on diesel and tick over lovely at 750rpm.

Bit down on power

New lift pump ok sucking fuel from tank

New filter on and sediment trap by passed

Just wont start even when hot, wont even kick

going to check stop valve tomorrow in case its limiting fuel flow or something as I'm on about 15 - 20% Bio only

Thin oil has less drag on the engine so it revs easier higher and with less strain on the engine. AC Is half of a famous Aussie Rock band.. :rolleyes:

and Correct RPM for tickover is 750rpm turn it up a bit. If neccesary ya can adjust the Low idle screw to stop it from dipping too low.
 
Im not sure about the cause of your problems but engine oil wouldnt be the cause of your problems as it will thin out when the engines warmer anyway and isnt going to cause a hot start issue, i would change the fuel lines or at least clean them out and the same with the injectors.

Just been for a ride out and checked it again, not stalling at 600rpm:eek:

Tickover is 750

Held it on clutch with brakes applied so revs dropped slowly down

She stalled at about 250 rpm or less

But wouldn't start again:confused:

Fuel must be ok otherwise it wouldn't run propperly so why wont it start:confused:

Not done any work on it so not that

Sounds like it's getting better. Maybe a bit of **** is gradually clearing itself from the fuel system?

Removed sedimenter and pipes ok, clear pipe so I can see it full of diesel,
may well be air in pipe, could it be at the tank end, pipes are rusty but no leaks

No smoke though, exhaust is clean
 
Also it would at least kick when trying to start as the leak off pipes are clear and I can see that there is diesel in them with very few bubbles
