Hi, I'm new to Land rovers and would really appreciate some advise! I'm looking to buy a 1995 Defender 300TDI pick up and it will be used to tow @3tonnes. My query is that this Defender has slightly larger wheels on than the 250TDI apparently does, the trader says they are standard to the vehicle but has offered to swap them for smaller ones as having the larger wheels can apparently cause snaking. Has anyone got any info on this please? I'm keen to keep the larger wheels as they have new on&off road tyres on which would be useful (the smaller ones wheels have only road use tyres) but at the same time I do not want to increase the chances of snaking and cause an accident!
Any help would be great - thank you : ) Laura

I am Running on BF Goodrich A/T 235/85 R16 and they
run like a dream on 1994 L 300 tdi..........
But only towed small trailer and thats been OK

Hope that helps

Terry

Thank you for your reply Terry!
Ok, I have a little more info on the subject now but I'm still not sure which wheels to go for.
Both sets are 16" steels, one set has 750/16 road tyres on and the other set has on/off road tyres one which apparently make the vehicle stand 2" higher. This 2" higher can apparently encourage snaking. Does this sound right?
Many thanks in advanced, Laura : )

What size are the larger tyres? They'd have to be pretty huge for the car to stand 2" taller.
235/85R16 is pretty much the same size as 7.5 x 16. give or take.
See my tyre size guide.

I would have thought the smaller dia
tyre would be better at towing but hey
I am no expert.... The lower the car to
the road the better for stability

Terry

Sorry, the tyres on the vehicle atm are the 'on/off road' tyres at 7.5 x 16.

Should these be ok?
Thank you all : )
