I have a 96 reg defender 110 300tdi which runs great except it has one niggling problem. When it has been driven for a period of time, say about half an hour or started and stopped a couple of times over a shorter period, it won't then restart for at least and hour if not longer. It seems as if something is either getting stuck or over heating. I am not a defender expert so any helpful ideas of where to look and check would be appreciated. I have tried changing the battery in the key fob, disconnecting the battery (this sometimes works) because it was suggested that it may be the immobilizer but how can you check this?

Cheers
Pete

if you find the starter relay below the fuses and expose a piece of the black eart wire and connect that to earth with a piece of wire try then if it turns engine over its an immobiliser issue if not another issue we could then track down, whilst there swap the relay with one of the other just to rule that out first

Hi there, no it doesn’t turn over. The dash board lights come on as normal but when you turn the key further to start you get no activity at all

Thanks for the suggestion, I will give it a go tomorrow.
