Hi, I am new to the forum, so I hope this isn't a stupid question. I am looking to buy a 1999 Defender 110. The Landy has a 300Tdi engine, and everything looks typical of a 300Tdi. However, the current owner (last 12 years) has told me that when he has given the chassis number to parts suppliers, it comes up as a Td5. It may have had an engine swap in the past, of course, but are there any obvious ways to tell the difference? Or, as the Td5 was launched in 1999, could it be a 300Tdi but justas a Td5? got registered Many thanks.

Welcome to the group.

There is a VIN plate on top of the brake pedal box.
What does that say ?

I prefer the 300tdi, it has a lot less problems/issues and next to no electrical gremlins.
No as many horses but then it's a Landrover not a race car.

Post a picture of the engine bay and the car in general. We like pics here.
