ok guys new update, after a chat with Steve we came to the conclusion the issue would be internal fuse box out to the lights. so today i got out there with the multi meter and low and behold 0v on the fuses. so as i needed to get to the cables behind the fuse box i decided it was time to remove it once again. got it out and done a few tests (continuity as battery was off at this point) and all came back happy then i started to probe the actual fuse box. results were clear that there was connection from 1 side of the fuse slots to pins on the back but not from the other. not being one to shy away from trying to fix something i know is dead i took the plunge got out the drill and removed the 3 plastic rivets holding the fuse box together and then traces the inside and got my tester to come alive.

i now have headlights YAY.... the fix was quite a simple one with the fuse box out and apart i took some fine emery cloth and put it around a 2p coin then rubbed the contacts clean.
put it all back together and boom headlights back to life.

however i still only have 1 side light the driver side is refusing to work and i cant find a bad contact for this. would it be a crazy idea to run the driver side light from a feed on the passenger side (with an inline fuse of course).

well thanks again guys for getting me though this and a MASSIVE thanks to Steve on this one you sir have been a legend not only for helping me with this but also for putting up with me while working it out.

Afternoon ceffyn (kev) spelt the proper way :rolleyes::p
Glad you got it sorted out ! Yes you can run side light from other side with a fuse in line ! I can't see a problem  don't run to big a fuse 5 amp mebi !
You should have only the back windows to sort then you should have a fully functioning disco !:rolleyes::eek::eek:

It's always helpful to have a final closure report in such an instance, good work, your findings will undoubtedly help someone in the future.
Land Rover for some unknown reason along with all the oil leaks and other foibles managed to "build in" some rather interesting, (if I can use that word), electrical fubars, all concocted by "that prince of darkness", Joseph Lucas..
