I have a 1985 90 with a Disco 300tdi engine. When I stripped it down, the airbox was on the LH/pass' side. When I rebuild, I want to fit a snorkel. Both wings have intakes on the tops only, no intakes on the sides.

Firstly, do I need to order a snorkel for the LH/pass' side ala 200tdi as the normal 300tdi snorkel is on the RH/dvrs side. And I assume I'd have to cut a hole through the side of the wing as well?

We have a 300Tdi powered 110 with a snorkel (transplant from a Disco I believe).

The snorkel is fitted on the Drivers Side and a hole was cut through the wing.....

The air box is still on the drivers side, as per original 300Tdi install.

In that instance, it would make sense to fit on the pax side then.

Be mindfull of the heater box in that corner of the world!

We have a 200Tdi Ninety (1988 with a early 90's Disco 200Tdi) that I would like to fit a snorkel to, that has the intake on the pax side, so would be interested to see pics of your install once completed.

What's the alternative though? Run a hose from the air box across the engine bay to the RH wing? Won't that give less airflow to the airbox?

I assume the longer the hose, the lesser the air pressure?

I don't think it matters on the length - the army run massive adjustable length snorkels and there is that video on YouTube of a series with a 10foot snorkel driving around a harbour on the seabed.

I have a 200tdi retrofit and I ran my snorkels out the top heater I take on the passenger wing army style. Just needed a couple of silicon 90dgree angles to make it all connect up,

You could easily weld up something similar on the drivers side and run the hose across the engine bay.

I chose the top snorkel to keep everything 'inboard'

My heater I used a lone flexi pipe down to behind the headlight, I was going to drill the wing and fit a series style vent but it works fine so I won't bother with that.

See photos.

Just breathing life back into this thread. I haven't got as far as sorting the snorkel yet but, for those of you out there that have a Disco 300tdi engine in an early 90, which side did you fit the snorkel? With this engine in, there is no space between the rear of the engine and the bulkhead, so there is no room to run an intake hose behind the engine and out to the dvr's side wing so the hose would have to go across the top of the engine...if there's room, which doesn't sound like a good solution plus it will look a bit 'Blue Peter'.

Before I stripped it down, the air canister was mounted on the pass' side of the engine bay and had no snorkel.

The other alternative is to run it to the pass' side wing and go with a snorkel on the pass's side ala 200tdi.

If anyone has had a similar conundrum I would love to know what you did as a solution.

In the interim period, we have aquired a 1988 110 with a 300Tdi fitted...the air box is on the pax side up the front behind the headlamp bowl.

This also has a snorkel fitted. The pipe work comes in the side of the wing, under the heater box and up to the filter housing. From there it goes back to the turbo via 180deg bend, out of the turbo down to a solid pipe forward to the intercooler, then from the intercooler to the manifold.
