I've got a strange intermittent problem with my 300TDi (discovery engine). If I rev to full throttle sometimes the engine just dies down to an idle, if I keep the accelerator planted then it does this until it goes to idle then back to full revs. If whilst it's dying down I take my foot off the accelerator and then back on it picks up again.

Could this be a sign of a faulty lift pump ? I've had 300tdis for years and never experienced this.

cheers.

I would just change it as a matter of course. It's not a difficult job, won't take long and a replacement lift pump is pretty cheap.

i had a similar problem with a truck once - turns out there was a cotton ball in the fuel tank and whenever it floated near the pick up tube it would block the fuel pretty much - pull over / idle and away she would go again. the boss suspected sabotage - we were hauling cotton bales and the competition was rife. anyway, yeah just try replacing the lift pump - cheap n easy first step. better than 'fixing' the complicated bit first.
