300tdi doesnt want to start.

After my Disco has had an 18 month long rest and thanks to this weather, I have finally had an opportunity to refit the cylinder head to my 300 after it blew all that time ago.

With the head on the engine fired up almost instantly. Brilliant! I switched it off to address a diesel leak then started it up again. This time it fired but conked out as soon as I released the key from the starting position. I tried to start it again but this time the starter would not engage, it just clicked like the battery was flat and the glow plug timer light on the dash did not come on.

I tried again but this time I couldnt hear the starter clicking at all and I still didnt have the glow plug light on the dash. I swapped the battery for one on a Range Rover.The battery that was on this Disco was able to start the Range Rover but the battery from the Range Rover gave me back the glow plug light for a minute but the starter still does not engage. Now im back to no glow plug light and no starter.

The fuses all seem alright and I havent found any broken wires yet......... Any ideas where I should be looking?

Check the connections on the starter solenoid.

Check your earths ! It has been stood awhile !

THAT IS SHAMEFUL! I really should have been able to answer that myself.

Indeed a wiggle of the earths and the starter connection and off it went.
