morning.
after a 300tdi disco engine in running condition to replace a knckered engine due to overheating.
prefer to see it run up to operating temperature prior to purchase, but appreciate this aint always posible.
would consider complete disco, depending on price. (mot fail etc)

i have a fender 300 but from an unknown mileage.

the defender i'm splitting was used trailering marquees up and down the motorway, had 300k on the clock.

i haven't a clue if it's an orig engine or not. it ran and pulled very well, no smoke, or rattles i have a vid of the engine running somewhere.

gearboc, which i stuck in mine is also rattle free and doesn't show much wear at all... i might see if i can track him down and ask what work was done. :scratching_chin:

anyway, all i know is the guy stuck it into an indep to do any work and it would seem odd to run that well without something being done to it.

unknown mileage isn't the greatest, but i could check a few things for wear if you were genuinely interested. :)

i can arrange to fire it up if you want to come over to St Helens …. :D

ok guys, first up- thanks for reading the wanted and secondly, for taking the time to reply!

while I'm not operating as a garage or trader, I am probably a bit more adept than the usual enthusiast. I will be making beer money with this as its a motor that's come in to the workshop via word of mouth, from a friend of a friend thing.

I need to account for distance collecting an engine, as well as the fitting, and the risk of buying unknown, coupled with what the chap that owns it is prepared to pay. :D
he was expecting a head swap, not a cracked liner, but I told him months ago to expect problems if he didn't sort the overheating issue.

so, to the bottom line- what do you guys want for the engines / disco?
answers by pm if you wish :D

ps- if it was my motor, yes, I'd be haggling :eek::D

Just spoke to a guy who is going to break a 300 with a good engine, recent cambelt, with receipt, its in Essex, and its in the car and running, MOT expires end of the month.
If you're interested, I can PM his number, its in Essex, which iI appreciate is a bit of a way for you,

sort of interested, depends on what he's wanting for it.
don't rule it out, stranger things have happened ;)

pm the number anyway, it'll be 50/50 if i'll call it. if something closer crops up, i'll go for that.

if it were me, i'd try to find one closer to home that you can have a good poke of first, looks to be plenty about.

they seem to go for 300-450 and about 50 to pallet.

buying an mot disco isn't a bad idea if you find one with a decent engine.after the engine, and a few bits swiped you should get 120-150 weighed in... takes time to strip and fart about though :/

I've had it in the for sale section for £450 complete but happy to keep a few bits back that you may already have to reduce the cost such as alternator or turbo which I will take off £50 each for.

I have a 300 here aswell , no alternator or starter fitted to it

£300 if your interested ? just had a replacement head and head gasket
coool, and a price to work from :)

any history, reason for head and gasket change, age of engine, milage on engine, has it been pay and play'd in whatever it came out of, does it breath, why was it removed from donor motor?

and finally, can you pm me a postcode of your local area so i can find out how far you are :D

removed from a customer car as he wanted a 200 fitted after the head gasket went on this one , was running with the blown head gasket but as head was cracked it has been replaced, engine is from a 97" disco, cant tell you if it has offroad use in the past, but looking at the vehicle I would say not has done around 120000 miles

do you know how long its been run with a cracked head?
how long has the replacement head been on, and are there any issues currently with water loss or overheating?
