300tdi Defender 90 - Project

Hi All,

I'm not new to Land Rovers, however this is the first Genuine Defender TDI I have owned. It is a 1996 Model. I bought it for £2750 with no MOT, I had a look around it and it didn't need much and the bits it did need I was going to upgrade any ways so was a good deal!

Spec when I bought it :

300TDI
Snorkle (not connected properly)
35Inch Kumho on 10 Inch Modulars
2 Inch Lift Kit with Toasted Front Shocks

Like I said I wanted to upgrade bits on it before MOT so set about fitting the following:

HD Steering Arms,
Uprated Steering Damper,
Two New Front Shocks,
Diff Guards,
Straight Through Exhaust,
Grooved and Drilled Discs and Mintex Pads up Front,
Mintex Pads on Rear,
Steering Guard,
Black Chequer Plating,
New Lights All Round.

It Flew Through MOT and I run it like that for a couple of weeks

I then bought some goodies for it.

First Being Challenger Wheels and BFG Mud Terrains:

Then I bought myself an Ian Dixon winch bumper and Winchmax 13000LBS winch:

Future plans are a Galvanised Chassis which I will be ordering soon ready for next year!

Bought myself a MUD UK Console, Carling Switches and some Gauges. All wired up and installed now, just need to find a use for the rest of the switches haha! Winch power is controlled via the switch which operates a solenoid to give it power.. Beats having it wired in permanently or on a big toggle switch

Went for a spot of off-roading on a local green lane yesterday with the dogs. Had to unfortunately go through that bog behind me because someone has dug a huge hole in a water filled part of the lane which I thought I was going to lose the Landy in!

Then today, my wheel bearing decided to take a dump. The wheel bearing is less than 500 miles old as well! The inner bearing collapsed, welded itself to the stub axle and trashed it. Bought a new stub in the end as was the better solution!

Looks better with some mud on it!

Any idea what caused the bearing failure?
