Thanks guys, managed to get one.
As for how it got damaged it involves adjusting the valve clearances, getting distracted by a phone call during reassembly and then starting the engine having forgotten the 27mm socket and rachet still on said bolt
Are you using a proper fan spanner or a normal off the shelf spanner?Can't actually get the spanner on, wonder if it's got a 36mm for some random reason?
They vary I have seen many threads with about 3 sizesOnline it says tdi is 32mm, TD5 is 36. Haven't had it off before

A normal spanner is usually to fat to get between the four securing nuts and the fan housing which might be your problemDon't have a proper fan spanner unfortuantely
