Trying to iron out a few niggles on the 90, I bought it with a 300Tdi/R380 from a Disco already installed.
Two issues: firstly the temp gauge almost constantly reads maximum temp - only when the engine is warming from cold does it quickly cross from cold to hot. The engine isn't overheating (nowhere near hot enough under the bonnet to be that hot), nor has the head gasket gone. Does the 90 temp gauge expect a different signal than what the 300Tdi sensor is giving?
Secondly, at some point some muppet has had the aux belt tensioner off and cross-threaded the stud that holds it to the water pump housing. I ordered a new tensioner because the old one wasn't running true, thinking that the rubber bush inside had collapsed. Only once I'd taken the old one off did I find the stud had the remains of a helicoil on it, and won't re-tighten. I have thought about filling the hole with JB Weld and then redrilling and tapping the hole, but would it be easier to just get another water pump housing?
Cheers!
