Iseem to remember it beeing a 32, but then i could use a normal spanner for om reason on my 200tdi

I actually made up a spanner using bits of flat iron to take off the viscous fan as I couldn't get one when I needed it .
I have removed the fan for the past few winters on both my own and my brothers Disco and it helps to keep the engine a bit warmer . There was never any hint of overheating even in slow moving traffic and my brother said the heater output improved considerably.
I was also a bit concerned about the viscous fan bearing but as far as LR are concerned you change the timing belt cover .I recently saw a bearing advertised on ebay ( from Australia I think ) and it was quite expensive and could be tricky enough to fit I'd imagine with the risk that if you damaged the cover you're back to square on. I also felt that removing the fan took some of the load of the bearing.
The bearing for the auxillary belt tensioner is available on ebay for a few euro and is easy to replace.
Glad to see your job went well . The Difflock kit would make the job of removing the bolt and pulley a doddle I suppose but is a big investment unless you had a few jobs lined up.

Ye old viscous spanner is 32mm.
Thanks for viscous bearing info Dooroy,I must admit that was bugging me a bit but feel better knowing that it's not an off the shelf item and you have to change the whole plate.

Hi Jason2.
My advice is when you do your cam belt also do the "P" gasket which is leaking. If you dont, one day you will be driving along and your heater will start blowing cold, which means the water has gone and damage has already ocurred in your engine.
Cam belt kits consist of idler bearing, cam belt, adjuster, "p" gasket, timing gasket, oil seal. (O.E. Parts).

Good to hear you have completed your task. do a google search from top of page for --otto discovery--. He's a Norwegian and his websete is a1. well worth a look. about anything Discovery, and how to fix recon. or replace it.I think it must have something to do with the long winter nights up there .

I found your mans site (otto whatever,see what you mean about long winter nights) and it has already given me a few idea's for future gearbox/transfer box oil change!
i.e his pump jobby.Or Rig a system up with 4m of pipe and a funnel higher than the gearbox to refill back up with oil.

Sorted new cam belt today & bits "Jobs a Good un"!
The hardest part is getting the kin viscous fan off
The "P gasket" was well fooked,and the 3 main bolts to get to it well rusty (1 had to be changed),water pump didn't need changing but did any way as I had it,auxiliary belt tensioner a little bit noisy,changed thermostat.
Needed a hand to undo crank shaft pulley bolt (sombod underneath with a screw driver into fly wheel through bell housing) to lock it whilst you undo.Put all the bolts from the cam-belt cover into a sheet of cardboard as I was taking them off to keep the order with them all being different lengths and that,changed the crank seal in cam-cover which didn't really need it,cam-belt tensioner changed just as well cos it was well noisy,viscous fan bearing noisy
Conclusion:Be prepared to battle with viscous fan and you might have a few bolts to change,change the viscous fan bearings if it's a second belt change (120k) like I didn't!!But will!

Kin new p gasket lasted a week and then started leaking again like a rightbasterd so had it all in bit's again!!
Leaking from the top and looked like the joint had'nt tightened up correctly,slack hand of liquid aluminium to correct corrosion wear,new p gasket,special attention paid to tightening only the bolts around the gasket first,took advantage of having mucky hands to clean inlet manifold,pipes,intercooler and blank off orrid EGR do dar!!!!!
If the kin thing starts leaking again I think I'l be looking to put a bigger coolant tank!!!!!

Still no sign of a leak on the p gasket so I think I'm going to crack a few bottles in celabration (any excuse)
!!!!!
The secret seems to be make sure that your surfaces are good,put a smear of sealant on both sides of the gasket and most importantly to tighten the 3 bolts around the joint first!!!!!!!!

Ps.Cleaning the manifold etc.... and doing away with the EGR has certainly made a differance but dont know what it's going to do for consumption as the old girl now flys like a rocket

Found if you use an an airline and blow the soot from around the EGR it cures the problem.
