Unless you have plenty of spare money to throw about the standard item, (300 Tdi), is as good as you'll get. I have a friend here who has spent an inordinate amount of money on the engine of his 300Tdi Disco, vv turbo, larger Alisport intercooler, pump tweaks, etc, etc, it now goes about 5% better than the standard item, (mine). What you are dealing with is a very agricultural but extremely reliable diesel that is sufficient for the purpose it was designed, no more no less.Hello To the fine community of landyzone this is my first time posting on here so just wanted ask for opinions on 300tdi billet/hybrid turbo cartridges. Are they any good? Thinking of trying one on my truck in the summer.
Thanks kyle

Well, also with respect, I have driven both his D1 and mine over the same course of roads and the difference was so minor as to be near imperceptable.With respect, IMHO, there is something wrong with that then, because my tuned 300, with full width intercooler, and a tuned pump goes a lot better than standard..... And I know this because.... 1) i drove it before I fitted all the "mods", and 2) SWMBO's is standard, and is a lot slower..... and will be "converted" when we can find the bits to do it.
I replaced the turbo on a 200tdi for a hybrid because running 37" tyres I couldn't move above 55mph on hills.
I also fitted the Alisport intercooler, the hybrid turbo has a turbosmart actuator set at 1.5 bar,
It now cruises up hills at 70, on the motorway obviously, with only .5 bar of pressure, so it made a vast difference to mine, but mine was a proper rebuilt hybrid not just a replacement cartridge, so it was expensive, it was built by Turbo Clinic in Leeds,

Not only has his Disco been fitted with a brand new long factory crate engine, (mine original with 209,000klm), but he has carried out all the possible mods to that new engine with all the bolt- ons money can buy, he has spent a fortune on this vehicle, a vehicle worth $2,500 here, with to date $19,000 spent and still spending.
I almost hope there is !!! - probably needs a new lift pump or somesuchThis is not to say that there is not some underlying problem with his engine
@D'fender90 ,
As Per @Disco1BFG has requested, But from my POV rather than look at a particular component in isolation.
Why do you not write up exactly what you are looking to get out of your Defender, list all the components you're willing to change and provide links to what you have so far thought of.
Perhaps most important , you need to give a budget that you are thinking of spending. Maybe in stages so that you can intelligently modify the vehicles without the need for new component redundancy.
Cheers
Will post a link up soon just at work, im after a "what if i" im just testing the waters as i always have my head under a bonnet its my job and only interest i love to play with engines i was looking to swap the turbo cartridge for a billet and then upgrade intercooler aswell id like it to be quicker off the mark and have a more responsive pull away. I only use the 90 on the road and id rather not drive anything else as ive always wanted one and i love itWot he ^^^^ said - have a look at the link I posted above to Jeremy Fearn
Yeah, Im aware of that, and use a gps to give speed indication, was just using the example to show how a well made hybrid turbo matched with a bigger intercooler should increase performanceThat is because fitting grossly over sized tyres you have changed the overall gear ratios. You will be travelling a lot faster than 55 or 70 indicated on the speedo.
