I pulled away from an intersection, and after moving about 10 yards something gave up on me. :(

There was no drive at all, just a grawnching/ clunking noise. I thought the H-L lever had been knocked, and jumped out, but I couldn't get it to engage and drive again

However, with the diff lock engaged it drives as normal.

Any ideas please?

broke an axle, or something in diff.

It seems that unfortunately U have some problems within the transfer box, or between the TB and front axle/wheels(propshaft - diff - halfshaft - CVJ)

Thanks guys, the AA have just recovered it to an independent LR workshop. It's under the AA breakdown warranty, so it would be good if the repair was under £500. Hopefully the halfshaft...

Did you get a loud clunk when going from drive too reverse before this happened ? if yes probably splines on drive shaft in transfer box completely shot.

My money is on a broken CV joint. This is a common failure but broken half shafts come second. I would be interested in what the Land Rover workshop come up with.

Half shaft .. almost anything else would be noisy, but he said when in difflock it drove normally .. :)

We have a winner! Front N/S CV joint completely broken.

Will be ready to collect in the morning. Total repair cost £270, covered by the AA Breakdown warranty :D Nice one AA!

Quite expensive if we think that a CVJ is £60, if one of U mates will travel through Romania sometimes PM me, bring the bits, and I'll take U to my mechanic....he charged me approx. £70 and for that he replaced the front diff, both CVj's and wheel hubs, changed oil in rear diff, gearbox, TB and engine and did a clean and nice job........as far as I know him he'll dessasemble and reassamble a whole Disco for ,I think max. £400:crazy:

I'd say in this case yo're a bit short;).....at least u have to by the CVJ cause the work is not a killer

CV joint £24.00
drive flange £9.50

+ VAT

£39.36

will need to get the stuff delivered though, unless my FLAPS has it at similar good prices!
