Howdy,

As winter is fast approaching (ok, it's in Edinburgh tonight already!) I need to fix the fan in the landy. Is there any tips or tricks for this? The Haynes vague mentions a set of lower holding bolts in the footwell of the passenger seat and I'm buggered if I can find them. If I'm going to take apart the heater, is there anything else I should replace when I'm in there?

Any help or abuse warmly welcomed !
thanks
K

You can trace the problem without removing the fan housing.
First check the fan switch on the dash has voltage and that the fuse is OK.
Under the bonnet find the wires to the fan and check for continuity of the fan motor.
Once you find the culprit then you can take apart the correct part.

The switch is ok, and the feed is live. Every time I turn it on, it blows the fuse, so I'm assuming that the fan is indeed, well pumped. Apart from the feed and the switch, I guess there's nothing left to check before taking the fan out?

When you said "check the continuity of the fan motor" I wasn't sure what that meant? Are you saying run a seperate feed through to the fan and see if it works then?

Thanks for the help
Ken

I would check the windings of the fan by checking that there is resistance and not a dead short or infinite resistance. Then run 12v through it from a separate feed. If the fuse is blowing then there is a dead short in the system somewhere.
