Hi all, I'm new to this forum.

I have recently purchased a 1996 300Tdi 110 Csw. It's done 137,000 miles and had the timing belt changed approximatley 50,000 miles ago. Would it be advisable to change it now or is there plenty of life in it still?
I'm new to landys but am keen to learn, is it a job i could do myself?

Many thanks, Ian

I have just dome mine with a whole new kit I would advise you to do it know as you are supposed to do it every 70000 mile so 20000 early won't do it no harm it is an easy job up until actually timing it get a manual that helps also a fan spanner helps ! Good luck

:welcome2: probably worth doing it if you have the time and can afford to. at least you know its done then and dont have to worry about it for a while!

Im in a similar situation, ive got a g reg 90 which has had a defender 200tdi put in it. The vehicle has done about 190,000 miles although im not sure at what point the engine was fitted, or when it last had the timing belt changed. So i think im gonna get a new one fitted as soon as im home next. i'd love to be able to do it myself, but realistically i'll probably be entrusting a garage to do the job for me, what sort of figure roughly should i be expecting??

Sorry for the hijack!

Changing the timing belt isnt a particularly difficult job as long as you are reasonably competant with a spanner and have a haynes manual to hand! id expect ud be looking at around a days labour + parts but not sure.

Yes, worth getting it done.

I had mine replaced on my 1996 110 300tdi when I bought it 5yrs ago with 50,000 on the clock. Ive now done 100,000 miles and Ive just had it changed again. I dont believe in waiting till the specified mileage has been achieved, better safe that sorry.

The garage said they had fitted an upgraded part, supposedly with a shoulder on it to help stop the belt slipping off. If that makes sense. They charged £99 + the price for the new upgraded part + VAT. Came to about £150 so its not so expensive.
