I'm going to try this with ebay items:

Just need to find the wires to bridge with the circuit now.....

Daz

the wires yiou want go to the ecu behind the side panel in the drivers footwell/under the steering wheel and they are red & green/pink

With the adjustable 1k ohm pot it will be adjustable i think.
What i'll do it mount the pot and switch in the small box and using my multimeter mark on the box the different settings ie: 1k ohm/900 ohms/800 ohms etc...............
So i can tweak it while i'm driving/testing to find the best improvement without smoke setting ;)

My customer tows big trailers a lot!:( think I may give it a go but set it really low and don't tell him it's adjustable:D

The bits arrived from ebay so i've made up the box and will fit it later :)

The good thing about the 1k ohm pot i bought is that the thumb adjuster is removable - so set it to where you want it power wise and remove the adjuster so it can't be altered/knocked ;)

Here are some pics:

Thats the box fitted bridged across the red, green/pink wires.
I accessed the ecu wiring loom by removing the black panel above the pedals (there is a black corrogated pipe to protect the loom) Bared the wires (red and green/pink) and soldered the 2 wires from the box - 1 to each wire.
With the black box mounted on the dash next to the drivers door i can operate the switch easily to "turn on/off" the tuning box.
I started by warming up the engine and turned the 1k resistor pot fully clockwise (1k ohm) and slowly turned it anti-clockwise (reducing the resistance) until the idle started to become lumpy. I then turned the thumb adjuster clockwise until the idle was smooth again.
Took it for a test drive and it does make a difference!
Checked that there was no smoke screen on harsh acceleration or kickdown - sorted!
Removed the thumb adjuster and turned the box "off"

Good work - how much difference would you say?

Also, my only concerns when messing with the ECU is what potential danger or stress will this put on an already old and possibly worn engine tho?

I am always interested in more power, but also need to consider the downsides if any...

Hi Stu its a good mod for a small price, the thing i like about it is you can switch it on and off. I'll probably only use it for hills as my disco pulls well enough as it is.
Downsides - as hifly said "you might melt something"
The guys with the normal injection pumps have tweaked them and i haven't heard anything bad about that?

Daz

yeah, that's what I was thinking with having a switch - just there for 'now and then use'.....just don't like the thought of melting something on my daily runner

yeah, but when you have a complete remap or new chip, a lot more work has gone into making sure everything works as it should rather than banging in a couple of quid resistor.....

Don't get me wrong, certainly not against this, or remaps/chips, as I have done plenty cars in the past - even had variable tuning boxes on my other diesel cars, but they were a lot newer, and just worried about the old girl and what could go wrong, as you have a hard enough job fixing the everyday jobs
