300 is no more unreliable than 200 in that basically the same engine,have you got pump timing advanced enough,or sucking air in (sender unit,sedimentor/lift pump etc)

Personally, I wouldn't bother with that. It seems to have too many problems, and has been said, it's a V8. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of V8's I own one myself (RRC) but for a daily driver/commuting car you'll be far better off with a TDI/TD5.

Had new sender, lift pump, head, filters, it's under warranty so they're investigating but it's ****ing me off! Had the pump timing checked and them had te belt changed its still the same. Hoping it's injectors now!
It had already ended when i looked, does not list milage or owners though!

Take your time and hunt for a properly well looked after 300tdi... I had the same sort of budget as you and also toyed between a d2 or d1... I prefer the styling of the d2 but the d1 is perfectly comfortable to drive (i've done 2k in the last 6 weeks) and mines (touch wood) been perfectly reliable apart from when I filled my alternater with mud from Salisbury plains... That's my own fault though!
