Hi guys,

hope this hasn't been posted before, I had a look but couldn't find anything related to my question...

I've recently bought a 300 tdi out've a disco for my Tomcat project, went to start it today, started fine but goes straight to full revs...

As the engine was during start up -
turbo hoses not connected to intake manifold
throttle arm moving freely on injector pump
diesel in a bottle, with feed tube and return pushed in the bottle...

Any ideas why it's not idling?? my initial thought was the turbo needs to be piped in for the injector pump diaphragm to have vacuum???

Or a seized component in the diesel pump?

Cheers in advance,

Loz

Sounds like the throttle arm on the pump has been removed and not put back on in the right position.

If you have no residual oil in the intake manifold then like James says its probably a pump fault as there is nothing else left really. Won't be the turbo to pump pipe as that is a pressure line (not vacuum) and only affects the fuelling when the engine is on boost.

OK thanks for the info, will swap the injector pump tomorrow and see if that fixes it!

It's probably worth saying the intake manifold has got a layer of thick gunky oil in it, was going to clean all that up when we do the head gasket... I'm assuming that means the turbo is leaking a bit then?

I'll will remember to connect the oil cooler this time and not get covered in ****ty black oil!

Cheers

The thick oily gunk will be from the EGR valve, best thing to do is clean it all out and blank the EGR valve off.

Righto, panic over!! took the diaphragm lid off on the injector pump, cleaned the little bit of crud off on the conical shaped shaft and free'd the pin that runs horizontal on the conical shaft off and a gave it a good helping of WD40, now she's purring like a beauty! Thanks for advice! :)
