300 tdi low water float switch

Have a quick search around, I've found places for about £20.....there's also a later model for £13 on ebay, I can't see what the difference is between the two, though.

or rinse it from the millions of scrap cars that have this and adapt to the cap if needed

just looked at that prc7925
seems the switch is closed when all is well, and opens when the level drops. however it has a 680ohm resistor in it which lowers the current enough to not have enough juice to operate a 'normal' relay.
so you'd need a low signal nc switch or some circuitry. if i understand correctly
oh, and it won't be exactly the same water level, so you need a bit more in. i don't know what this will do for false positives, probably be fine.

well i went and got this but theres a problem,under normal use there is continuity through the switch,problem with this is the warning light would be on all the time,how do i get round this?

thinking of using this,someone on Series and fenders on fb,gave a simple way to wire it using a relay Premium Quality Automotive Relay 12V 30/40Amp 5Pin C/O With Bracket - By TYCO/TE | eBay
Earth to one side of float, other side of float to 86
Fused batt (adequate for bulb) from ignition on feed to 85 & 30
87a to bulb
Earth to other side of bulb.

is this theory or have they bought and done it?
it looks like that float has a resistor in it which might not trigger a normal relay.

personally, i'm not as they are meant to fail quite often anyway.
but i'd be interested in links to parts to make our own. i'm not ace with electronics.

bear in mind head gasket failure pressurises the system and pushes water back into the header tank, giving a false positive.
understand this isn't the plan, and its to prevent hgf as a result of coolant loss, but just thought I'd mention it.
looked into low level sensors when my rad sprung a leak, but dint get any further than just looking at it!
