Hi all
I am looking to fit a 300 TDi in to my 4.6HSE P38 amd was wondering if anybody has done this or knows of any body who has done it. I have converted my LSE classic to the 300 TDi and an very happy with it. But with the P38 there is a lot of electrical parts that might not work after the engine swap is done like the MPG computer unless it works from the fuel pump or some thing.
Any help will welcome.

Thanks Craig

Hi Kingson

I carried out the conversion my self. I had to purchase an addapter plate to addapt the engine to the auto gearbox and weld in new engine mounts but as the TDi only has 1 wire to control it other than the starter motor there was no real problems . Mating the engine and box together caused a few headaches but it drives ok. The only real problem with the drive is that you have to use the gearbox as a manual if you want to acceleate fast away from lights as the ratio's are not correct but once you are used to that its much better on fuel :D My 1989 Vogue SE does 400 miles to the tank on an average week of motorway and A roads dropping down to 300 miles to the tank around town when the wife uses it for the school run. Compare the 4.6hse around town only manages about 220 to thank and that is 100 litres:eek: Hope this helps. If you need further info just let me know

Hi Luiz
As my conversion was from a petrol land rover engine to a diesel land rover engine (land rover did make this range rover SE automatic at a later date) the parts are known and available. I have not heard of this International HS 2.8 engine. If it is an Isuzu engine there are kits available but I do not know where from. The person that I purchased my kit from is at the following Website Longranger vehicle manufactured from used land rover parts
The conversion on my Ranger Rover Classic LSE has retained the petrol type gearbox and you have to drive it manualy to get the most out of as it will change gear to early and fells very slugish but my 1989 Ranger Rover Classic Vouge SE has had an engine and gearbox fitted from a Land Rover Discovery and is a much better drive as changes gear correctly and I will be happy with this engine fitted into my P38 but running in sport mode at all times. Hope this helps

Thanks Craig
