what if you make up some brakets that move the engine mount forward abit? i.e. a flat bar bolts onto the engine and carries the mount forward

i think my perkins 4203 is fitted this way, it uses the standard landrover mounts. also a friend has a V8 fitted like this. i'll try fit some pic's as i'm not good at describing think like this!! :D

a bit like this but bigger: http://www.inetogether.org/jaguar/images/engine_gen_mnt-070622.jpg

yeah I think I know what you mean doobs, allthough I think I got mi knickers in a twist uneccessarily, if the brackets dont clout the mount or the leaf spring then theres no reason they wont be fine.
I could make a mock up of the end of the spring or I thought about a plate and a couple of lengths of allthread and make a rig to fully squash the suspension, take some piccies and show the mot man, maybe thats a load of bollicks.

Well the engine is in, for the last time!.
So far Ive made new mounts out of angle iron and weldes them to the chassis, modded the 'box bellhousing by drilling two holes at the bottom, modded the nearside 300tdi engine mount, modded the egr valve, ie welded it up, removed the ps pump.
looking good so far, now its the rad/intercooler, electrics and fuel tank.

Ok well, happy with the engine mounts, have just modded the power steering pump, I've taken out the rollers so now its just a rotor whizzing round without trying to pump, I also welded bolts into the inlet and outlet pipe unions to blank them and filled the case with gear oil, so the whole thing is now just an idler.
was wondering about the rad and intercooler, thinkin of putting them close up to the old fan pulley behind the front chassis member, the steering rod might get in the way.
I fabbed an exhaust using bits from a diesel rover, doesnt have good ground clearance, but it'll get me going for the mot.
I looked into your suggestuion doobs, didnt decide to go that way as the bracket would have had to have reached forward the best part of a foot to reach the old mounts, and leverage over this length would be a concern, and might wrive the original mounts off the chassis, they dont look very strong.

Ok then heres some pictures of what I've been up to, the first in the inside of the steering pump, on the top right of the rotor you can see the remaining 2 rollers, I took them all out to make an 'idler wheel' out of the pump.
The second shows that the 'box deffo fits onto the 300tdi, I drilled 2 mores holes in the thicker 'land' at the bottom of the bellend, I might need a new bellend when you tap it its just goes thud instead of doing, casting flaw suspected.
The third is the patch over the exhaust soot recirculation valve mount.
Then theres mi london to bristol exhuast bodge, bashed from a rover diesel exhaust, I'll change this when I get around to it.
And then last theres a picture of the issue with the rad and intercooler, I think I'm gonna have to overlap the 2, putting the cooler at the front.
Good fun, let me know what you think lads/lasses, its a bit crap but it'll work.

Yes andy you did, and thats why I went out and bought the 300, I've only had it a few weeks.
The photo was just for the benefit of those who were sceptical at the time, the photo shows it fits without doubt.
No harm done.
Yours and others original advice is heeded and appreciated.

Well it looks like work on the old girl is going to start again.
I'm gonna have to lose the turbo, whats the prescribed method with you guys with the 200tdi's, I'm sure I've read it but I slept since then.
T'other issue I might run into that I cant remember anything about was the clutch, I recall someone saying they needed a spacer to go up against the release bearing.
On a lighter note is the starter, I need triple jointed arms, I can see the remote terminal but can I reach it and touch it, no way, let alone push a terminal on.
Spose the only reason why the old girl is being completed is that I'm looking for another landy, an ambulance.

Well I managed to get round the rad/intercooler issues.
The intercooler from the disco would not fit, with this being a lwb and having taller chassis rails there is not the space to get them in side by side, and I didnt fancy messing around with one in front of the other.
So I aquired a TD5 intercooler and made some brackets, looks ok, might even work.
