Hello. Im having a problem with my discovery 96 auto. When going up hill gearbox wants to change up a gear, revs drop off but dosent change gear. Ease off throttle and the revs pick up again. Only happens when going into top gear. Has anybody got any ideas? Thanks

Strange. So how do you know the gearbox wants to change up ?
So is fluid level ok and at what speed does it happen?, you will feel & hear the differences when the gearbox goes into ‘lock-up’ … perhaps thats what its doing at approximately 53mph. You could also move the selector to position 3 or slow to around 48mph, for it to drop out.

Hi, I think you have a fueling issue rather than gearbox, I would start with the fuel sedimentor, fuel filter and lift pump. Good luck and keep us updated.

+1 on the fuel issue most likely air in the system causing lack of fuel as post #6 and 7...

EDC ? or not... ?

Hello. Its a edc. Fuel and air flters were changed recently. Gonna ng to clean out fuel sedimenter in rear arch. Fuel tank is full. Only happens when going into top gear and only going uphill. Lift pump feels good when pumping. Goes through other gears ok and revs up ok.

Did it used to perform better going uphill? Changing up going up hill is kinda counter intuitive, unless the slope is mild and the load isn't heavy after hard acceleration up the hill in lower gears.

Its allways performed ok. It will change up on long hills if you put your foot down. It just seems to hit a spot were revs die off like when its changing up. They die off but it dosent change. Ease off and accelerate again steady and it will change.

Hello. Whats the MIL? Havent read faultcodes. What do i need to read fault codes? Thanks

MIL = Mallfunction Indicator Light - amber "check engine" "idiot" light in the cluster ... Reading the fault codes requires compatible reader .... Hawkeye as an example...
