Hi All, hope someone can help.

A few days ago I serviced my Disco 1 300tdi i.e. since changing the fuel filter the system seems to be getting air in somewhere and is a nightmare to start. I have bled the filter i.e. lossened the bleed screw and pumped the lift pump until clear fuel and no air come out the screw.

Since then I have bled the system via the fuel injector pump return also. She runs fine once started, when stationary for a day or so, same problem - hard to start.

To me the lift pump seems to work sporadically, quite often there is no resistance felt whilst using it. Could the lift pump be allowing air into the system without leaking fuel(can't see any leaks anywhere).

Any suggestions gratefully recieved.
Thanks
Pete

make sure that the bung at the bottom of your fuel filter is air tight.
sometimes overtightening them can cause them to crack and induce air.

sporadic lift pump prime?

Hi there,

Thanks for the reply and the info on the lift pump. I think you're right it must be the filter - I haven't touched anything else. I've bought a new one, fitted it and bled the system....all seems fine two hours after fitting... I really need to wait until the morning to see if it works ok.

Thanks again for your input - much appreciated.

Cheers - Pete
