3 Holes in my bonnet / hood??? Why are they there???

I have a 2003 Land Rover SE with 3 holes in the bonnet / hood. One hole on the outside of each wind shield washer and one hole with a rubber o - ring in it. Does anyone know if these holes serve a purpose?

Is it possible the spare was bonnet-mounted?

Could you be more specific about your vehicle? Range Rover, Discovery, Freelander?
