No I wasn't sure how to do it didn't think it needed doing, kinda wish I had now.
Is it the seals at fault?
Also are the guides oil fed, if so would they leak? other then that I cant think of anything else that would cause the oil in the bores.

well it can only be rings or stem seals no?

they are easy to do, but you gotta take off the heads unless you got some kinds compressed air gizmo to push the valves up.

when the heads off and the valves out just pull off the old ones with pliers and then put some oil on the new one so it slides on easy as they are feckin tight on the guide!

Just be careful the spring doesnt fall off the rubber when you press them down lol

not oil fed though oil could leak past inlets ,worn bores or poor ring bore contact ,wrong oil

does it smoke?
if so on over run or on power.?

over run=valves/valve seals etc..(vacum sucking oil in past valve seals)
power= rings/scored bore/worn bore etc.
(ususally)

my old lo comp 3.5 currently in the car uses some oil according to 6 of the plugs but I have never seen any smoke, I thought it was rings on her as it was set up very lean by a ****e mechanic before I learnt to do it properly my self although it does have the ol style heads on it.

I am not sure how either of us could really tell apart from a compression test with oil down the bore for the 2nd test

if the plugs are fouling you could always try one step on temp with plugs..ie go hotter.

what oil is you using??

mobil 1. 10-60 is good for old engines..expensive yes, but has lots of additives to stop oil loss though whatever reason..but try plugs first..ngk i find are excellent..just plain copper tip type is all you need.(ngk heat range is opposite to champion by the way)

dont worry den...if you did rings they may well not be run in yet!

change the oil though..first oil change should be at 500miles or less..(to clear out any crap you may have missed)

dont be too gentle in running him/her in...engine likes varied loads, up and down the rev range..just not long on power up hills type of thing..
motorway cruising excessive idling is a no no..
