have a v8 3.5 efi in my defender at momnet and have a spare engine i'm rebuilding. Would it be better to stick with the efi or rebuild it with carbs and which would be better su's or stromberg thanks

Efi. Strombergs and su are both underwhelming (well they are on a low comp v8) Also your fuel pump pressure is too high for carbs.

Hi, I have just had a Weber carb fitted to mine - I am totally happy with it.

Probably, almost certainly, you will get better performance from EFI - but for reliability and simplicity - the carbs are great.

I'm in Somerset if you want a go to find out.

Hi I had weber on my last one and agree, it installed a bit of confidence when going on a long trip..........you can fix it if it goes wrong and it will run on lower grade fuel.......I do like the efi on my disco.

Thanks for the offer .......in Glasgow though:(

I've had four EFI RR V8's (I hotwire followed by 3 flappers) without any problems but agree that for pure simplicity it's carbs, preferably SU's I would say.

I swore by SU's until I used a weber 500 so much simpler to use than Holley , problem now is cost of weber and manifold . SU's still good excellent set up....Like my efi though

Hi, sorry for slow reply - as far as economy goes - I just don't know - but I think it is around 15 mpg..

I tend to just lie about it - saves a lot of conversations....
