Over night for no apparent reason the battery has completely drained on my '02 3,0TDI. First time after jumping and recharging took to local main dealer who extracted over £110 to tell there was nothing wrong (1 hours labour), now its done it again! I no nothing has been left on, my suspisions are that internal HVAC fans are failing to cut out and running all night anybody had similar problems?

if it is the HEVAC fan, there is a bulliten for this to have a relay fitted, sometimes its the HEVAC control panel itself.

L322 also suffers from interference from outside sources, i.e. when a remote on the same frequency for another car, garage door etc is pressed, although will not unlock your car, it will wake the ecu's up for a few mins, there is no fix for this.

If its just started to do it with no apparent reason then it could possibly be a faulty battery

Thanks for that Clutchdust. I told main dealer about the relay mod for the fans they said not applicable to my vehicle! Battery should be ok as again they said they tested it with drop test etc So could be panel as you suggest or possibly another remote but nothing has changed locally since car was new. Will keep investigating.

Disconnect the battery and put an ammeter from the battery terminal to the connector that is now off, check the reading, with everything off it should be a few mA. If its over, start pulling fuses until you find whats drawing the current.

Thanks John F and Discomania am looking into other remotes etc. Main agent assured me when they had the vehicle the battery drain in sleep mode was well within there guidlines, mind you I dont think the problem was manifesting itself when they had the vehicle so we are back to the old conundrum of how to diagnose an intermitant fault, I thought plug in diagnostics solved that problem but it appears not!

Hi Bucyruseire,
Did you ever get to the bottom of the battery fault, ? I came to my 4.4 V8 L322 this morning and it wouldn't start, lights came on the dash, steering wheel out etc but not enough juice to turn over. I am in work now in other car while it is on trickle charge (not got proper charger) and hope it will start when I get home. I know I've done lots of journeys recently with heated wheel and seats on but it should still be able to cope. It could simply be the battery getting tired, but it has never struggled to turn over in the past. I know I may be jumping the gun but thought I would uttilise some time doing some digging about.

Hi Adam,

The fault was eventually found after 3 weeks in a main dealer! The HEVAC fans started comming on whilst the ign. was off and drained the battery after a few hours. Fault traced to Regulator assembly under dash top panel. Half an hour to fix and £30 odd for part. LJGO 000021 Regulator Assy. Hope that helps.

Thanks for that Peter, I will keep my eye on it, I re charged my battery and everything is fine again, but am now always keeping an ear out for the fan to see if it is running after ign is turned off. Part number should help me as well !

Thanks.....................Adam

Hi Peter,
It has happened again last night after work, so will be looking for a new regulator assembly, thanks for the part number, fingers crossed that is what the fault is, you've been a great help.

Hi Peter,
Do you know exactly where this Regulator assembly is located, as when I bought the part today from my local indy, they seem to think it was located under the dash on the passenger side, but you said it was under the top part of the dash. I've had a look at my RAVE software to see if it can give me any clues but no such joy. Would just like some conformation before I start riping my car tp pieces.

Anyone out there know ? Thanks...................Adam

Hi Peter,
My pride and joy is suffering with the same battery drain as everyone else. My local dealership tell me that the HEVAC module needs replacing at a cost of £663.50! Though I'd try your suggestion first. Was wondering if you would tell me how to replace this part? Can it be a DIY job or an experienced technician job only??

Thanks in advance.
